The Americano is composed of Campari, sweet vermouth, and club soda.

Origin

The cocktail was first served at creator Gaspare Campari's bar, Caffè Campari, in the 1860s. It was originally known as the "Milano-Torino" because of its ingredients: Campari, the bitter liqueur, is from Milan (Milano) and Punt e Mes, the vermouth, is from Turin (Torino). The name of the drink is an homage to Primo Carnera, who was the first Italian boxer (and the first non-American) to win the world heavyweight championship in the U.S.A

Mix the ingredients directly in an old-fashioned glass filled with ice-cubes, add a splash of soda water and garnish with half orange slice!
