How to Make It
Gin & Tonic Steps
Four simple steps to the perfect G&T.
1
Chill the Glass
2 min
Fill a highball glass with ice cubes and cold water. Let it sit for 1-2 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients. Dump the water and ice just before building the drink.
A frozen glass keeps the drink colder longer. Fill with ice and soda water while you prep, then dump it out.
2
Pour the Gin
1 min
Measure 2 oz (60ml) of gin using a jigger and pour it over fresh ice in the chilled glass. For a classic G&T, London Dry style gins work best — their juniper-forward profile cuts through the tonic.
Measure with a jigger — eyeballing leads to unbalanced drinks. For a classic G&T, 2 oz is the standard.
3
Add Tonic Water
1 min
Slowly pour 4 oz (120ml) of chilled tonic water down the side of the glass, not directly onto the ice. This preserves the carbonation. Gently stir once with a bar spoon to integrate.
The ideal gin-to-tonic ratio is 1:2, but adjust to taste. Pour slowly to preserve bubbles.
4
Garnish and Serve
1 min
Cut a fresh lime wedge. Squeeze it gently over the drink to express the oils, then drop it in. Serve immediately — a G&T waits for no one.
Express the lime oil by giving the wedge a gentle squeeze over the drink, then drop it in.
